Ho Chi Minh

Stuff we have seen and done:

  • Ho Chi Minh City: Cu Chi Tunnels: History Bite: The Tunnels of Cu Chi, a gigantic underground tunnel system, was originally constructed under the jungle terrain, connecting tunnels among the hamlets and communes during the Indochina war (1945-1954) against the French colonialists. It served as hiding spots for Vietnam revolutionary troops to discreetly commute between regions and evade French scouts, and also families when visiting, our guide informed us.

  • General Information: You get to go through the tunnels, if you like, which aren’t too narrow, but if your claustrophobic, I would think again. Wear comfortable shoes.
  • The Reunification Convention Hall: History Bite: Also known as Independence Palace, it is one of the most famous and historical sites in Vietnam. This building was the home and workplace of South Vietnam’s President during the Vietnam War, so if you’re interested in learning more about this fascinating country’s history then the Reunification Palace is a great place to start.

  • Water Puppet Show: History Bite: Every year during the annual rice harvest, farmers in Vietnam’s Red River Delta region would gather for folk singing and dancing at village festivals. A little over a thousand years ago, water puppets were added to the list of performances at these festivals, to celebrate the end of the rice harvest.
