Stuff we have seen and done:

Lincoln: History Bite: The Romans created a major settlement here in around AD50. William the Conqueror arrives in Lincoln in about 1068, and recognising the strategic value of the location – orders a castle to be built on top of the hill. If you walk around the city you will notice, Roman ruins, Tudor landmarks, and Medieval battlements.

Something New:

• Built our own motorhome with a 9 seater minibus we purchased in Kettering, England. Took 2 weeks to convert. Wild camped for 3 months with 5 kids all over Europe. Paid for only 3 camp sites during the whole trip.

• How: Watched a lot of youtube clips on building motorhomes. Ordered everything online we needed for the conversion before we arrived in England. Shower system, water tanks, extra battery, fridge, toilet etc. Took a suitcase of tools for the build and they came in handy for fixing things along the way.

• Why: To travel we knew it was going to be expensive so cutting costs anywhere became the pivotal aspect of the trip. We wanted to take all the kids and needed to save money. We ended up with what could have been a $50, 000+ trip coming in at around half that cost.

• Result: We ended up sleeping in some amazing places, where we had the moon and stars as our view. We saved a lot of money on accommodation and were able to see and travel further to destinations. Also, met a lot of other wild campers on the road, who gave us other destinations that we would have otherwise missed.

Camp Sites for Wild Campers: There are wild camping websites online, take your pick who to follow. There is specifically “Aires de Service” that are signposted in France and called other names in different countries like in Germany it’s called Stellplätze. No matter what they are called they all work the same, and they are free camping for motorhomes.

Stuff we have seen and done: 

• Lincoln Cathedral: History Bite: Commissioned by William the Conqueror, in 1072. This early Gothic cathedral was completed in 1092, and features pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and flying buttresses.
• Lincoln Castle – Charter of the Forest & Magna Carta: History Bite: Magna Carter is a document dating all the way back to the 13th century during the time of King John (Robin Hood folklore), and a copy was brought back with the Bishop of Lincoln to the Cathedral but is on loan to the Castle – a very cool piece of history.
• Steep Hill – walk through the streets of Lincoln: It is literally a steep hill with lots of shops and cobbled streets. If you don’t like the climb then avoid the hill and just explore down hill in the town centre.
• Cathedral Quarter – this is the area between the castle and cathedral which has a few shops and places to eat.
• Doddington Hall & Gardens
• Lincolnshire’s Historic Houses
• Mrs Smith’s Cottage Museum: A rare time capsule with a unique experience that offers a window into the past.

Off the Beaten Path:

• Visit the Bubblecar Museum, Langrick.
• Visit Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary and Wildlife Centre, Mablethorpe.
• Experience the RAF Scampton Heritage Centre, Scampton.
• Enjoy the Parrot Zoo, Friskney.
• Explore Doddington Hall and Gardens, Doddington.
• Go to the Newport Arch – oldest surviving Roman archway in the UK.
• Catch a flick at the Kinema in the Woods, Woodhall Spa – a wholly different theatre experience and a must do once.
