Stuff we have seen and done:

Kent: Is such a beautiful part of southeast England with lush countryside and pleasant weather.

Dover:

• Dover Castle: History Bite: King Henry II began to build the present castle in the 1180s. The castle commands the Strait of Dover which was important as a strategic vantage point especially during the Battle of Britain, WWII. It has historically resisted many a siege because of its position like during The First Baron’s War, with King John’s English Barons, 13th century.

ACTIVITIES AT THE CASTLE: Tents with activities, dress up in medieval clothing and sword fighting. Fun for kids.

• Dover Castle’s Tunnels & Underground Hospital Tour –Operation Dynamo was conducted from here during 1940. Winston Churchill’s scratch marks are on the meeting table where they met to discuss the war as well as secret rooms where operations were conducted make it super mysterious.
• Escape Room at Dover Castle – a fully immersive escape room within the secret wartime tunnels. It sounds and is an awesome activity.
• Dover Beach – I wouldn’t associate my favourite beaches with England but I do love a walk and run with my dog along them.
• Roman Painted House – the remains of an ancient Roman town house.
• White Cliffs of Dover – the white cliffs are the region of English Coastline facing the Strait of Dover and France. They are spectacular whether on a boat through the Strait or walking cliffside.

Canterbury:

• Canterbury Cathedral

Hawkinge:

• Battle of Britain Museum – plus you can see Hurricanes, Spitfires, Messerschmitt BF109E’s and Tiger Moths and so on …

Places to Wildcamp/Park: Dover: We found a gem of a place to park which is right by the White Cliffs of Dover. You pay a pound for 24 hours. It’s free after 5pm and before 9am. We were last there just before Covid and it had not changed, from the last time we were there, two years before. Falling asleep to the moon overhead and views of the cliffs is just magical – and cheap.
