Berat

Stuff we have seen and done:
Berat Castle: History Bite: This is a citadel dating from the 13th century. Its origins do date back to Roman times but since then it has been rebuilt and altered through time. Built by the Byzantine Empire, and later modified by the Ottomon Empire, it sits on a hill overlooking a beautiful view.
Donot: Be tricked by the “I’ll be your guide, and show you around for free”, trick.
Do: Buy their wares within the castle walls. Locals handmake their products and sell them at affordable prices. Perfect gifts for family and friends.
Gorica Bridge: History Bite: Built from wood in 1780 and then in stone in the 1920’s, it is one of the oldest Ottomon bridges in Albania. It connects 2 parts of Berat together.
HOT TIPS:
  1. There are a ton of bunkers scattered over Albania from the Cold War.
  2. No means Yes and Yes means No
  3. Albanians have strong beliefs so be mindful when travelling around what is acceptable and unacceptable. They believe in good spirits and warding off bad ones
  4. There is no McDonalds in Albania. They don’t want one, they prefer coffee shops
  5. Albania has siestas during the hottest part of the day – about 2-5/6pm approximately
